Processes and Requirements for Airman Medical Exam:
Definition of Airman Exam Classes:
FIRST CLASS MEDICAL:

For Air Transport Pilots (ATP) which are typically commercial pilots who fly passengers.

Valid for 12 months under age 40 and for six months for airman aged 40 and over.

Lapses automatically to SECOND CLASS after 6 months if over 40 and THIRD CLASS after one year.

May require an ECG based on age and/or physical findings (performed in my office and included in the exam).

Requires 20/20 vision with or without glasses or contacts.

Any new student interested in an aviation career should obtain a First Class Exam to verify qualifications.

SECOND CLASS MEDICAL:

For commercial pilots flying for hire.

Valid for 12 months at any age. Lapses automatically to THIRD CLASS after 12 months.

Requires 20/20 vision with or without glasses or contacts.

- THIRD CLASS MEDICAL:
- ​For general aviation pilots flying personal/family and recreation.
- Valid for 5 years if under 40 years old, and 2 years if 40 or older.​
Prior to your appointment:

Be sure and bring a valid picture ID, preferably a drivers license or passport.

Bring any FAA requested information if you have ongoing medical conditions.

If you wear/need corrective lenses of vision, bring your glasses.

If you wear contacts, bring your contact lens case. If you have backup glasses, bring them as well.

FOR FAA:

You should complete a medxpress application on faa.gov prior to your appointment.

I cannot issue your medical until that online application is complete.

If unable to do this, we can still do your exam, but I am unable to issue your medical until that is done.
